TAG Supplementary High School Appoints New Director

TAG, the supplementary Jewish High School, recently appointed Noam Dolgin as its new director. Dolgin co-founded Canada’s first Jewish environmental education centre, Adam v’Adamah, and brings his background in experiential and environmental Jewish education to this important component of Jewish educational programming in Vancouver.

TAG, an acronym for Torah, Avodah (prayer), and Gemilut Chasidim (acts of loving kindness), is an educational and social program for teens that promotes experiential learning and critical thinking. TAG offers a weekly evening program tailored to Jewish students in grades 8-11. Classes are structured to introduce and enhance understanding of Jewish values, culture and education, to provide an important connection to Jewish identity during a time when Jewish teens are faced with many different choices. Supported by Jewish Federation, Beth Israel, Beth Tikvah, Temple Sholom and Or Shalom, Jewish teens from different backgrounds come together for a few hours each week to learn about Judaism and its relevance in today’s world.

Dolgin plans to take this Jewish learning experience and bring it to a fun and interactive setting that grows the enthusiasm of students, and allows them to build on their values in a meaningful day-to-day way. As he explains, “TAG presents Jewish education as not just about Torah, but about what’s around us.”

Jewish Federation’s support of TAG and other Jewish education programs is part of our mandate to support Jewish education and continuity through nurturing values, practices and traditions which sustain and enrich Judaism and Jewish culture. Jewish Federation has also provided funds to co-locate TAG and Torah High to the same location, to share activities and create synergies.
